Deimos Rising 1.0.2 Copyright 2001-2003 Swoop Software & Ambrosia Software, Inc. www.deimosrising.com ABOUT DEIMOS RISING Deimos Rising is a vertically scrolling arcade-style game featuring 12 battle zones and a large variety of enemies to conquer. 1 or 2 people can play. Using alien technologies, military forces have swept back into power on Mars. This totalitarian regime must be stopped and its robotic armies destroyed. You are in charge of a VacFighter, equipped with both Air-to-Air and Air-to-Ground weapons. To succesfully complete your mission you will need to master this craft and its weapons. New weapons, bonuses and surprises will be available as you progress! HOW TO PLAY Press the FIRE AIR WEAPON key to release weapons that will deal with airborne enemies. This key can be held down to power-up the weapon, emitting a stream of destruction on release. Be careful not to overload it though! Press the FIRE GROUND WEAPON key to release plasma bombs against ground enemies and installations. Line up your foe in the crosshairs, wait until the crosshairs glow red, then fire and forget! This weapon automatically increases in power as you progress in your mission. Additional Air-to-Air weapons become available throughout your mission. Press the CHANGE AIR WEAPON key to cycle through available weapons. To succeed in your mission you will need to master the art of changing weapons quickly and selecting the appropriate weapon for the target. HINTS Intelligence reports suggest that the enemy has cached valuable resources near their forces. Bombing suspicious locations may yield rewards. Destroying all enemy ground forces in a sector will reward you with a 100% Ground Accuracy Bonus. Achieving this in all sectors will qualify you for the Super Bonus. In order to start at a later sector, you must have completed that sector and you must have started your mission from sector 1. When starting at later levels, you are given 1 VacFighter. Completing a sector without sustaining any damage will qualify you for a Shield Bonus. For more information on game play and hints, consult the Deimos Rising Player's Guide. REQUIREMENTS For Mac ¥ MacOS 8.6 or later. A rev B iMac or faster Macintosh (266mHz) is recommended if running MacOS 8 or 9. A somewhat faster machine is required when running Mac OS X. Deimos Rising is a "fat" application in that it actually contains both a version optimised for Mac OS 8/9, and a version for Mac OS X. The correct version will automatically be used when you launch Deimos Rising. ¥ 40Mb of free RAM. ¥ 640x480 screen or larger, supporting thousands of colors. If running in Mac OS X, the game can be optionally played in a window at thousands or millions of colors, in which case it is strongly recommended that you set your display to "thousands of colors". (See Performance, below.) ¥ QuickTime must be installed and enabled. ¥ DrawSprocket 1.7.2 or later. ¥ InputSprocket if running in OS 8 or 9. For Windows ¥ Win95/98, Windows 2000, or Windows XP ¥ Pentium 400mHx or higher ¥ At least 64Mb of free RAM for Win95/98 and 128Mb for Windows 2000 or Windows XP ¥ 640x480 screen or larger, supporting at least thousands of colors ¥ Direct X 7 and QuickTime 5.0 or higher (see accompanying 'Quicktime Instructions') For specific information on downloading the software necessary to run Deimos Rising, consult the Technical Support section of the Deimos Rising Player's Guide. PERFORMANCE ¥ We recommended that you close other CPU-intensive applications before running Deimos, especially on slower machines. If running Mac OS X, it is advised that you quit out of the Classic environment prior to playing. Video interlacing may be turned on (see below) if the game is running too slowly. ¥ If running Mac OS X, the best peformance will be gained by setting your display to "thousands of colors". No display benefits will be gained through using millions of colors, and the game will just run slower. Also, the game will perform slighter better if run in full-screen mode rather than "in a window". ¥ If you experience any unexpected loss of inputs, try disconnecting any non-essential USB devices and start Deimos again. ¥ When playing via the keyboard please be aware that there are limitations to the number of key presses that your machine can recognise at any one time. It is recommened that you assign some controls to modifier keys such as Command or Option on a Mac, or Ctrl or Alt in Windows. A light tapping action works well. DEMONSTRATION FILMS To view a demo film, press the Demo button. Pressing the button after each viewing will cycle through all available demo films. You can exit a demo film at any time by pressing Escape. OTHER CONTROLS Caps Lock: Pauses the game. Press it again to resume the game. Esc: Finish game. F3: Decreases the sound volume. F4: Increases the sound volume. F5: Toggle video interlacing. Interlacing may provide some performance improvements. (Some harmless screen artifacts may be observed in this mode.) Hold down the Option key on a Mac, or the Alt key in Windows while starting Deimos to display the Preferences window. HIGH SCORES To reset the high scores, hold down the Option key on a Mac, or the Alt key in Windows while clicking on the Scores button. VERSION HISTORY 1.0.2 - release.
